Why do in many many years a CC Half Eagle bring significantly more than of another mint of the same year, even though in some cases almost 10x as many CC found were minted? Is it simply people think CC coins are "cool" or is there additional factors at play?

Some of it depends survival, just because more were minted dont mean that more survived and the same holds true with grade. But yes the CC mm does seem to bring a premium just for being that

Part of it is definitely the "people think CCs are cool" factor. The bigger part imho, is that overall Carson City $5 half eagles are a LOT more rare then say Philly or Denver for the entire series....even though in some particular years CC may have a higher mintage. A complete date/mm set is practically impossible for the $5 lib, so many folks put together $5 lib half eagle sets by purchasing one half eagle for each mintmark (irregardless of date). From the perspective of the mintmark only, the CC would be one of the keys, along with the charlotte and dahlonega.
