I am currently on a 3-4 day trip in Phnom Pehn, Cambodia and I was advised to go to the money changers for UNC banknotes. So I went to the central market and I stumbled upon a bundle of a thousand 2000 riel banknotes which started with 3333001, I had to have it. It cost me USD500 to buy, for which I got ripped off a little, but I didn't care as intended to use all the rest of the money here. It was wrapped in plastic and inside there were ten straps of 100 notes. I saved from 3333330 to 3333339. I don't think 3333333 is worth much, but hey it's still a genuine solid serial. I estimate it at around USD30, any thoughts on this?   |

I wouldnt imagine there would be a huge market for Cambodian currency but its still a solid and UNC. It has to be worth something to someone. If it hasnt cost you much I would keep it as a good souvenir of your trip.

I do intend to get rid of it as soon as I find a buyer, I generally don't collect serials.

That's a nice score / pickup....  Fwiw, I would have saved the other binary's from that batch like 3,333,003.... 3,333,111 etc first and last note as well. I had similar score a while back on a trip and ended up with some ChCu fancy sn's. |

Yes, I did consider saving those too... But since they are just modern riel notes and as enworb suspects, and I would tend to agree with that, there musn't a very big market for them, I felt it wasn't worth it. And now that I think about it, I'm not even sure it was worth holding onto the semi solids as well.

The best one I got was sn 300,000 (sri lankan 50 rupee note dated 01012010).
I also got some radars, repeaters and some binaries all ChCu.....
mostly on 10 and 20 rupee notes and have put the notes in storage.

I was hoping to sell some of these (non fancy sn's) ChCu notes...
Not sure if it's worth the hassle as shipping is going to be rather expensive etc.
I may try and sell some on another forum at some point.

The 300,000 seems like a nice one. I guess you are interested in collecting these fancy sns? I don't see why you shouldn't try to sell your non fancy sns, why would the shipping be expensive?

Face value for 80 rupees is around 75 cents and my cost of going to PO, driving, parking, packing materials, PP fees (on sales) etc is NOT in the $3.50..... In other words....for me to make a small profit I would have to sell the notes for about $10 to $12 or so...not sure if it's worth the hassle as most would walk away from it. FWIW... a lot of new collectors IMO, do not realize how expensive currency shipping can get. There are dealers I know of who charge around $10 per package regardless of the $ value of the sale. |

I totally get where you're coming from, not everyone is in a position where they can sell banknotes and turn a profit. However there are some sellers who are able to offer much cheaper shipping costs and still make a profit and I think I know how they can manage it. My thoughts as to how they do it: Offer many different bank notes at the same time as well as combined shipping enticing people to buy more as each banknote costs less due to combined shipping. They are Top rated ebay sellers giving them a 20% discount on final value fee (I think). They buy sleeves, envelopes and other packaging material in bulk and they use poor quality items. You bought 2000 for $500, and sold 10 for $90. Sounds like you made a decent profit there.
