I ran across this website and I just couldn't help but admire the caliber of the 1892 proof set listed there. It LITERALLY gave me chills. http://www.mullencoins.com/nickels/...92-proof-setHere is a sample of the penny (hope the owner doesn't mind hot linking):

This makes a strong case as the single finest Classic Proof set in existence. It's not only the #1 set in the PCGS Registry for that year; it's also the set with the highest Weighted GPA - at 69.08 - of any pre-1950 Proof set, and no other Proof set containing a Dollar even reaches 68.00.
It's pretty special.

Quote: I believe this seller had mentioned a price before, I think over 50k. Maybe seller could chime in The Morgan alone is an easy $60k coin. Or, I think so - the only other 68DCAM is an NGC coin which hammered at $57,500 almost two years ago, so there's not much to compare to. Regardless, I think this is one of those rare cases in numismatics where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. Although not proven beyond doubt, it's accepted that this set was hand-assembled at the Mint (from what they considered "premium" examples) for display at the Columbian Exposition, and its' provenance is known since. As such, it's likely unique, and there will never be another like it. I'm not aware of any other "complete as assembled at the Mint" Classic Proof sets surviving. I know if I were interested in acquiring it, I'd plan on a rather substantial six-figure sum just to get the guy's attention.
