So I have got $250 to fill a/multiple holes in my 7070. What slabbed coin(s) would you recommend to try and get at that price in ms60+? Just want to here some opinions

My friend who is putting together a slabbed 7070 is doing the "Everyman collection" category; http://www.coinnews.net/2009/09/17/...ns-category/No coins will be in the Uncirculated category. In other words, the highest grade obtained would be AU58. These coins would still very attractive, but are much more obtainable financially. I started out with the most recent coins first (Lincolns, Jefferson's, Roosevelt's, Washington's, Kennedy's, Ike's, etc...) and worked my back. Others may want to knock out the earlier editions first since they are usually harder to obtain. Do what feels right! I am always looking for upgrades.

You can add some of the moderns real easy and cheap. I would suggest starting with your favorites that you can afford with your budget and work from there

I would go with Classics not Moderns because you have a nice chunk of change to fill some of what will be the harder holes to fill later on if you don't have as much money to spend later on. If it were me I would go with a VF Trade dollar for $175 or maybe even blow the whole $250 on a XF Trade dollar. The nice thing is say you do the VF Trade dollar you can still use that last $75 to fill most of the modern coins in MS state easily and you got one coin that is a little pricier and is going to be harder to get later on. Heck with the $250 you could get a VF Trade dollar and get a nice MS Morgan and Peace dollar in common dates. I like the idea of a big portion of it going to one coin and then if you want using the last $75 to fill almost the entire modern coins.

I agree. With that budget and grade in mind, the moderns are going to be the best bang for the buck.

Thanks guys, and I know the Trade dollar will easily be one of the hardest to acquire in high grade for an affordable price, I am leaning towards two ms64 peace and Morgan dollars right now, or a nice ms60+ Indian Head cent.

How much is the IHC, I bought a RB IHC for my 7070 back in like 2005 or 2006 in MS62 for $26, I am sure prices have gone up since then but I do love the look of the IHC in MS state.

I would go with a classic also. It is a little hard to recommend a specific type not knowing the coins you already have though

I would listen to the above advice and go for a Trade dollar first. While a high MS grades are nice, my preference for my 7070 is AU although I do have some proofs in mine. Wish I would have gotten a Trade dollar first. Just my opinion edgman

I would go with the classics first too. And then ask for the moderns as gifts. Or acquire the moderns whenever you get some money to buy them. There is no rush on the moderns, since they are readily available and their prices aren't rising much. And that is a great idea on the Everyman Collection Category.

My vote is still for a Trade dollar in VF or XF, I am thinking I am going to buy a VF Trade dollar in my coin shop for $175 in the next month or so personally.

As long as you dont try and get a 73CC, 78CC or the 75 S/CC they should run a few hundred to a thousand give or take some.
The 76S or 78S will probably be your only shot for an AU50 thats not damaged, maybe the 75s or 77S too but numismedia has them all listed between 300-315. Theres a shot 250 could do it but it might be hard to find one for that price.

I would get an Oregon train commemorative half. It is absolutely the best design of the early commemorative series.
