I'm out of town on business and decided to stop by a coin shop I have never been in before. Not great prices on the bullion but I did manage to pick up a 2 coin 1996 Olympic commem set in proof. It is the Rowing/High Jump set. In OGP with COA for $69. I figured it was a good price. RedBook has them at $80 and $65. Figured I did alright.

Going to try another coin shop tomorrow after I get out of training. Unfortunately, I didn't bring my list of Prestige Sets tha I own. They had a few at decent prices but I'm not sure if I have the 1993. Guess I need to list them with the Franklins on the slip I keep in my wallet.

They've got a bunch more Prestige and Commems in a side room. They haven't been priced yet. I indicated that I was interested but would only be in town another couple days. The sales lady said the buyer wasn't there to price them. I figure I might stop back tomorrow.

They've got a bunch of the 8oz ASE bullion pieces. I one one from 2003 but didn't bring enough cash with me to buy another.

What are these 8 oz ASE pieces? There is no ASE with 8 oz. They are all 1 oz. Is that a typo then?

How much are they listing the ASEs for? Nice deal on the 1996 set. Good luck with getting some more.

I thought the same thing but APMEX actually does sell an 8oz. I have no clue how long it lasted but doesn't sound like they were very popular.

They are 3rd party offerings. Not from the mint. They have the ASE obverse with a normally different reverse. The one I have has the normal eagle shrunk down and a ring of the 5 2003 Gold Plated Quarters that were issued that year imbedded in the reverse. They are quite impressive and normally sell for a few dollars per oz more than melt.
