Hypothetical Situation: If you had up to $1000 to spend on ONE Classic U.S. coin at current market prices which would you choose? Please notate what grade the coin would be and include a short explanation why you chose that coin.
-------------------------------------------------------- My choice would be a nice slabbed $10 Indian in AU58-MS61 to start the gold page of my type set which is empty at the moment.

1876s Trade dollar in high AU. Cool coin, first US coin to list weight and purity, first US bullion coin, I'd want it to be nice and shinny like the other coins its size that I have

$10 Eagle, Liberty or Indian, slabbed of course! Why? Because I need both of them (and most of the others, nine total holes in my 7070 gold tray)!

It would have to be an MS-63 1832 Half Dime for my 19th Century type set. It is one of two dates with a mintage of under one million coins struck for the Capped Bust 1829-37 type. Ed ANA LM-3175

La Fayette Dollar in as best condition as possible. Not too many struck. Capped Bust half dollar 2nd choice, and Coronet head eagle 3rd.

I'd put that towards the best deal on an IHC proof I could find. And why? Because there is nothing more beautiful than an orange peel IHC.

1885 3 cent nickel of at least XF grade. Need one for my typeset and that one would be a doozy to get a hold of.

I'd buy the key date in the middle-date large cents. I'd pick up the highest grade 1821 large cent I could find for $1000. Only 389,000 minted.

Mine would also be the nicest $10 Indian Eagle I could find.

There is only really one choice an 1872 XF 2 Cent coin. Compare the mintage's with other low mintage coins and you will see just how under valued it is, that coupled with the fact that over seventeen million of the series were melted between 1871 and 1881. So the 65,000 low mintage with a significant portion of that melted makes the coin kind of a no brainier. The only problem is finding one. And finding one at a reasonable price.

I like everyones idea can I steal a bunch of them Best Seated Liberty dollar that could be found for my type set best $10 Indian I could find (rare chance to own gold and I love that inset design) Best Trade dollar that could be found LaFayette Dollar But if I had a $1000 to spend I would want to spread it around for $400 I can get a nice VF Seated Liberty dollar, for another $300 I can get a AU Trade dollar and for the last $300 I could get a VF LaFayette dollar. Heck I could see myself even dropping to an XF on the Trade dollar and saving a $100's and finding a 4th coin I wanted for a $100. So for a $1000 I could have three to four very nice coins. But if it were to be just one coin and one coin only I would go with the $10 Indian.
