Normally I would answer with the 1909-S VDB Lincoln Cent, but it is technically not a classic. So my next choice, inspired by a recent thread, would be a Trade dollar for the 7070. With that kind of money being spent on only one coin (which is so not in my nature), I might as well make it a good one. Of course, were it not for that recent thread, I would be eyeballing a Seated dollar for the 7070 (with or without motto, it is a tossup since both holes are empty).

I see lots of suggestions but not many answers to the question... Surprising after 2 pages I thought were were a little more wordy here.

Mine would be either a Trade dollar or a 20 cent piece, in BU, since I need them both for my type set.

The highest grade Charlotte or Dahlonega quarter eagle or half eagle I could get for that money (Numismedia suggests that VF20 is possible for a few dates in either mintmark and/or denomination... looking at these I'd probably go for an 1854-C half eagle - Numismedia value $940). Reason? I want to get as many US mintmarks included in my collection as possible... and I already have the P-D-S trio in many different denominations, an O mint dime is on the way, and the CC and W mints (probably dimes for both) are only a question of ever seeing one for sale (outside ebay anyway). So that only leaves Charlotte and Dahlonega

An 1909-S VDB Lincoln in the best grade I could get for $1,000. Its a coin I always wanted but could never afford. The only opening left in my Lincoln collection. edgman

Forgot the Lincoln isn't regarded as a classic coin. In that case a Trade dollar or a 20cent piece in AU for my 7070 album. edgman

As soon as I read the topic I knew the answer .. this coin is at the top of my list for my 7070 set. I have had the money twice, but end up making other purchases before I find a good deal on one. I am about half way back to having the funds again. I hope to have the coin in the next month or so .. that would leave only three holes left in my gold page.
