The Royal Canadian Mint has released a 5oz silver coin for the theme of Farewell to the Penny. The Mintage is only 3500 but the price is harsh.
The US Mint has the ATB wildlife series but a mintage of 35000. I actually like the design better.
Which one would you choose:
-- to keep in your collection?
-- to invest?

Just want to point out that the mintage for the 5oz Farewell to the Penny is only 1500 (not 3500).

Rest in Peace

First, the 5oz penny is limited to 1,500 not 3,500. see http://Mint.ca The US coin is 45,000 total (varies)
Neither country thinks much of silver - giving the 5oz Canadian a 1 cent face value, and the US gives it 25 cents FV.
The US coins are 'circulation' strikes (bullion?) vs Proof finish on the Canadian.

I do however think the $205 is a more reasonable cost at $40/oz. (roughly) vs $100/oz Cdn.

The mint.ca site doesn't offer bullion. It is selling collector coins.

Seems to me anyone that complains about the bullion value versus price is only interested in the bullion. So, buy bullion and stop looking at collector coins.

Dcadon, Attention!
The ATB Silver Coin is $229.95 plus $4.95 of shipping!
I would order it if the price were $40 per ounce.

The 5 oz. ATB's are not that popular in the US. When they first came out as buillon (same design, no mintmark, but a preferred shiny finish vis a vis a matte finish with mintmark) in a set of 5- five oz, people knocked themselves oout to get a set for a $1,000, and quickly resold them for $3,000+. I haven't looked lately but I think they're back at issue price.

its the subject matter that will propel this 5 oz coin, like the previous RCM calgary stampede coin is still not sold out. the american is sold closer to bullion value.
