About 3 months ago I purchased a complete set of 24 Peace dollars. I've noticed some of the coins have tarnish along their outer edges from air exposure. Is there another collector book to put them in? I thought about sending the whole lot to PCGS but that would probably not be cost effective. Any ideas you could share would be appreciated. Thank you.

If the "coloring" is distasteful, then it's "tarnish". If it's appealing it's called "toning". Sounds like you don't care for the change that the album has done.

Being a Type collector, I would keep the best one of the lot and sell the rest, individually. But if you want to keep the set, Dansco is the best album you can buy (from what I understand). Having the whole lot slabbed would be very expensive, even if you got a bulk discount.

PCGS's website says you need 100 coins for a bulk discount. Not sure if theyre flexible about that or not but Id suspect youd need probably 70 or 80 coins to have a shot at getting it

oih82w8. I'm assuming you know this is a Dansco Book. The plastic pieces slide out to release the coins. Thanks to ebay, these sets tend to bring more money as a complete set than they would do sold individually. I have no plans for selling so they will remain in my collection for many more years. The coins are not toning but getting tarnish along their edges. I have placed the book in a Ziplock bag. This should help slow the oxidation process down. I can always buy a Seal-A-Meal. Every newlywed couple has one and sells them at their first yard sale. Just kidding but it would work for long term storage.

I wonder how long they've been in the Dansco ? I have mine in a new Intercept Shield and it will be interesting to see if the edges tarnish like Dansco did those.

What album you have them stored in is usually less important than where the album is stored. Low humidity, stable temperature, and clean environment.

Put a bag or two of Silica in the Zip Lock also. jbuck above got it right. Watch where you store them. Kitchens and Bathrooms are bad because of the moisture. Yes Seal-A-Meal does work for long term storage. I use it myself. Trouble is it gets pricy. Food grade Plastic Wrap works well also. But make sure you have some Silica or dessicant in the Zip-Locks.

My opinion

some of them aren't worth sending in. Send in the key dates, the rest are melt value unless in BU
