Hi redlee

I posted something about this a couple of weeks ago, the bulges are more than likely caused when they punch the letters on the edge of the coin...Check the defects to see if they correspond with each letter on the coin's edge.

Edge lettering = messed up looking rims.
To answer your question, yes on many.
There is a story about edge lettering in the Canadian coin news September 25th. That tells readers about the raised letters on the edges.
There is a picture exactly like your coin.
This article is quite confusing to read. Correct me if I am wrong but I am pretty sure the words Canada two dollars are not raised.

They have been listed for sale as defective on ebay. I don't know if any sold.

The first ones like this I saw were being advertised for $49.99 on the 'bay back earlier this year, but I'm sure none were sold at that price (I hope). I think it would be a rare twoonie that had no "defect" at all, though there are degrees of bulges differing from coin to coin.

I have seen the same thing on U.S. president dollars, I saved a few. I was told they are not worth a premium.
