So VACookey and I were out and about today shopping, opening another account at a different bank for roll searching etc., when she reminded me I had an expensive coin on hold at our other dealer. I have had this coin on hold for over a year, and actually kind of had forgotten about it. So we bang the left and go to the store.
We pulled up and it turns out the shop has expanded and he now sells comics as well. Oooooooo, this could be dangerous indeed! LOL So we walk in and the first words out of his mouth were "HEY! Glad to see you guys! Its been a long time and I was worried about you." Nothing about the 500plus dollar coin languishing in the case. This is why we like this guy. (As an aside, this is NOT the cranky old guy I have mentioned before, who also is a friend of ours and holds coins)
So we rapidly explain our chain of crud in our lives that has side tracked us from seeing him. He pulls the coin out, and we continue to yak and look through other coins. We grab a number of other lower priced coins. Perusing the case, we discovered a Fine condition 21
Peace dollar that is holed next to the two in the date. Pics of which are in VA's thread

1772 Spanish 8 Real. For those that dont know, this was the only silver dollar used in the States at the time. Reals circulated as legal tender into the 1800s. This coin led to the silver dollars we know. It is also where the term pieces of eight come from.
8 Real pieces were cut up into halves and quarters (hence the terms used for 50 and 25 cent pieces) to use for smaller transactions. From this coin came the basis of our monetary system. So not technically a colonial coin, but one in practice for sure.
