Dear All, I am a new member on this forum. I collect chinese old/modern/copper/chopmarked coins/tokens. My first post is about old Shanghai bread token: Hall & Holtz LTD half loaf. I was wondering which half loaf is more rare: half loaf without "N" counterstamp or the one with "N counterstamp from 1925. I also would like to know when and where half loaf without "N" counterstamp was issue? I heard that in UK, but do you know where exactly? I also heard that it was issued 1895. Can anyone confirm that. Do you know some information available about this token on the Internet? Thank you in advance. Hall & Holtz was a well known bakery located on Nanking Road in Shanghai. Although undated, these tokens date from between 1895 and 1900 and were manufactured in England. In 1925 the business was acquired by J. Neil who stamped the bread tokens with a letter 'N' having punched the circular centre hole square. This was to distinguish them from the previous issues for which Hall and Holtz were still responsible. Both varieties are considered to be rare and these tokens have been listed at auction for amounts ranging between $200 and $700 depending on condition.

I posted wrong photos. Those are 1 cent and 2 cents 1922 from China General Omnibus Company which issued 3 sets of bus tokens: 1st set (1922), 2nd set (1926) and 3rd set (1939). Could I ask how to modify photo and add correct photo of Hall & Holtz hald loaf bread token to this post? Thank you in advanced!

I fixed the picture in the original post for you.

Quote, seen on school staffroom notice board: "The staff of life is bread, but the life of our staff is one big loaf."
Actually, bread token collecting has a small but enthusiastic following in Australia.
