Hi all, I have loved lurking around this forum for almost the past year since I got really into collecting and figure it is time for me to start contributing more. I must say however that my collection is nowhere near others here as I have typically been getting coins in the VG-VF range as to me I hate seeing gaps in albums. Although I am young and I understand the quality over quantity mentality, I am not in this as an investment but rather want to collect all the dates. I have been to the RA show quite a few times and was wondering if anyone else frequents this event/ how it compares to the larger shows? I have almost completed my penny collection just missing 1892 and 1894 and am starting to work on my Half Cent collection from 1911 on. Any dealers at the show someone would suggest?

Are you familiar with Rod from "Rods Coins"?

Yes, I have purchased quite alot from Rod, however my collection is getting to the point where he does not have the stuff I need, more silver 50 cent pieces. That being said he often has something that I end up buying.

You should attend the Ottawa Coin Club, there are silent auctions at each club meeting, and Rod MacDonald (mentioned above) typically brings a couple of boxes of stuff.

What does the RA stand for?

It stands for Recreation Association. It has nothing to do with coins it is simply where a monthly bourse is held in Ottawa with probably about 6 dealers in attendance for coins and 8 or 9 with stamps.

The GTA needs some monthly shows. All we get is semi-annuals and the occasional club shows. One could actually make a half-decent living doing that. ("Half-decent" - let's not kid ourselves.)

I have purchased all kinds of things from Rod. That guy has some amazing sources. If you are from Ottawa, you can always tell his writing on holders and such. I went to Universal Coins on Bank St and found a showcase full of randomness in their showcase from Rod. By far one of my favorite "dealers" :)

SPP-Ottawa when and where does the Ottawa coin club meet? I thought I had heard it was once a month on wednesdays. Do the meetings typically draw a lot of people out?
