Hi there

I have asked quiet a few people ( none on this forum) on the explanation of the letter "d" in the early South African Pre 1961 coins but have no answer as to date, is there anyone who could shed some on this?

I believe it stands for penny. Though I don't know why they would use D instead of P.

Let Google be your friend.

This is what I found.

"In British currency, d is an abbreviation (from the Latin denarius) for the pre-decimalization penny, worth 1/240th of a pound."
