Well my last thread (poll) was moved to where NOBODY would see it and mods haven't moved it back here where we can actually get results...so, a new approach.

I have been posting in the buy/sell/trade sections for sometime now, offering fair to good deals, and am curious why, with so much hype about selling here, that there are only a handful of people that you see checking them out? Following countless threads from newcomers about how to sell, the same suggestion of getting your min posts in and then sell their items here, but seems that activity over there is so limited. Curious to everyone's insight on why you DO or DO not go there to buy your gold and silver. CHEERS!

I havent bought anything here but I would if the right item came up. But I will say its a bit unsettling that you could buy something and theres no recourse for not getting it or getting something else

I haven't bought anything here awhile, as stated above by basebal21, I haven't find any sort of items that interests me.

Its also difficult to buy higher ticket price items, as there're really no easy way to protect in the event of lose package, unless either party agree to cover insurance and/or postage, plus non-gift Paypal fee.

PS: The last time I sold a coin in the CCF auction, I received cash in regular mail, not high amount, but I can't say in the future I didn't received and it got lost. I don't want to take the chance that if it happen.

I can't buy yet, due to post count.

I check daily for the heck of it, and haven't seen many deals that made me go ...wow I need that!

I'd buy junk silver at spot or slightly below it or gold if it had smaller mark ups than I could find from a secure online dealer. For example...

Goldmart has Krug 1 oz gold coins at $1798. If I saw someone on this site offering it for 1750-1770 I may say okay, now that's worth it. The fact is this site doesn't secure transactions, and there is a fair amount of "trust" involved. To sell on a site like this you will often probably be expected to take a lower premium.

I've bought and sold quite a few times on CCF and had never have problem. Over the years, I've bought over $5000 worth in coins on CCF and have sold about $2000-$3000 worth in coins on CCF. They are bullion and non-bullion coins. A few transactions was in the range of $1000 to $2000, however, most of the time the transactions are less than $100.

It's all boil down to having the right items and selling to the right people. I've follow CCF and people post for a long time and those I've been dealing with, especially high dollar values are long time members. I have to admit some of the people I've deal with are no longer around (in active).

I haven't encounter a negative B/S transaction (knock on wood) on CCF; however, there are occasional situation when things didn't work-out for either side but I don't see those often on here.

One last thing: Most of the time, CCF buyers know what they want and the value of the coins so you have to price your coins at a very competitive range/level to attract buyers AND there is no "bidding war" like on ebay.

Just my thought.

I've bought & sold on CCF. Here's my observation. Most sellers want retail or more. When you are talking about bullion that means sellers want spot +5-10% & buyers here won't pay that. On numismatic items sellers want ebay prices. IMO many sellers are not being realistic with their expectations. The reality is that unless you have your own retail outlet it's almost impossible to get retail.....unless you sell on ebay & then fees drop you well below retail.

In a perfect world sellers would research ebay prices for their item, subtract half the fees from that price & offer the item. Buyers would get a reasonable discount & sellers would get more than they could selling on ebay. This might still mean slow sales due to the limited market.

I buy and sell here all the time and trdhrdr007 hit the nail on the head.
Buyers here are savvy and know how much an item will sell for. Sellers are getting a deal by not paying ebay fees and should take that into account when selling. I sell a lot because I price things to move. I try to keep my lots down in value so the average person can afford them. The few High dollar items I have put up have not moved mainly because there are no buyers with funds available her at the time.
Trust is a big issue. If you will accept PayPal then state PayPal not PayPal gift as neither person has any kind of guarantee in the deal. Trust needs to be earned so start small and be patient. CCF is a great marketplace once you understand how it works. Don't expect your fellow collectors to pay any more than you would for an item.

I will buy if I find something interesting at a reasonable price. If I see something listed at more than ebay price, I will definitely give it a miss. If the price is right, I will definitely buy here.

I have few coins to sell but don't have enough posts. So will wait for sometime to sell and then see is I can move some coins here.

For sure if you're selling at ebay prices here, it aint gonna sell. Like people have said, people here are educated and know where to go and how much things cost. Selling at such a price here is just insulting. I am in agreement that trust is a huge factor since most transations here are based on just that. I too have done a handful of transations here without any hitches. *** Knock on wood *** I have for the most part, chosen to work with individuals here that I have come to know and earn a leap of faith from me and I'm grateful for those individuals that I have had the pleasure to work with.

Accept Paypal and you're secured. A ton of sellers here specify Paypal gift only, then wonder why they have no buyers. Duh. Paypal gift, like the warning on all the auction/PIN pages, affords no purchase protection at all. There is absolutely NO WAY I would buy with Paypal gift, I don't give a crap who you are.

It amazes me that members can sell here absolutely free and are still too cheap to pay 2.9%... which is not out of line with merchant accounts. It's ridiculous and boggles my mind that people can be like that.

A large part of my collection has came from CCF members here on this site. I do not post a lot but I check CCF out daily and I buy from people I have a lot of respect for and they have a good reputation with CCF. I have paid for everything with paypal gift...Once again, I have never had a problem. Most of my purchases are under $500. I trust the people here much more than I trust people on ebay. I rarely get a "great" deal, but I always feel like I got a fair deal.

I really do have to agree with this statement.

Many sellers' inclination is often incorrectly based upon the fact that avoiding this minimal fee will save them money.

For the most part not paying this fee will end up costing them more $ on average in terms of wasting more time modifying, re-listing, multiple viewing ... etc.

It all adds up in the end and 'time is money'.

I say pay it and move on to the next one for quicker turn-over

I do like to purchase on forums but for reasons of my own do not purchase by any other means than a money order. I also do not like to purchase on a auction site where it appears that I have to keep checking back to see if I was successful. On the forum sites where where I do purchase from transactions can be accomplished through private messaging between forum members. I guess that I am not very technological minded and purchase items only up to a certain dollar value.

After reading your topic I truly had to go looking for the sales area because I have looked here and for the reasons I say I just never looked back and forgot where the sales area was located.

I'm here solely to enjoy the conversation and not to look for deals.

Yes, the possibility of a deal going sour is always present. Fortunately, the people on this web site seem like a pretty good bunch. I can see something going wrong by accident, such as a lost shipment or some such problem, but the likelihood of an intentional problem seems minimal. There is no perfect security in these things, so we all pretty much settle for very good security and let it go with that.

I haven't bought or sold anything here but would do so if the right things became available at fair prices.

It just takes one time though from someone on a high value purchase for whatever reason and theres not much you can do. Thats my only real complaint about the site, at least with ebay they would refund it or pay you back. For small purchases I wouldnt worry though
