I have been away for the weekend without computer/internet activity (99% of the time), and I thought that I Was seeing things in my pursuit to fill my 7070 Gold Page. I am not familiar with patterns of most types, but this one just looks ridiculous. What does the CCF say? http://www.ebay.com/itm/1803-Quarte...em3a7a938725

Looks to be a die struck copy in brass.

A crude, and poorly made copy. Looks contemporary.

It is not a Quarter Eagle pattern, you have to read the auction body to find out what it really is- Quote: Early numismatists believed this piece was a genuine pattern for 1803 gold coin, an off-metal strike. However, today, we know it was made by Kettle and Son as a gambling counter, just as they did with George Washington counters that we call "Success Tokens" today. These 1803 pieces came in two sizes: quarter eagle and half eagle. In fact, GW Success Tokens also come in two sizes and are struck in brass and in copper. Our offering here is for a quarter-eagle measuring 20mm, which is much scarcer than half-eagles.
We have a very nice brass Fauver 1803-1b, which is R-6 (20-75 known). Although struck weakly in the centers as normally found, this piece has circulated very little. Initials "BP" for Benjamin Patrick is clearly and sharply visible on Liberty's shoulder.
It is also worth noting that Quarter Eagles were not minted in 1803(skipped year) so that is probably why the date was chosen.

(memo to self) {read the description for posting for the world to see what kind of an nimrod you really are...and spellcheck}.
The title grabbed me and I hung on without reading the whole description.

It is a gambling counter, not a genuine pattern or crude fake. The seller correctly described it in the auction body but for some inexplicable reason, listed it as a pattern in the Quarter Eagle section
