Poll Question
My friend has started his slabbed 7070 about two months ago and is off to a great start. When he jumped into the gold page I was a more than jealous and had to get the "fever" as well. I have one Liberty Head Half Eagle coming in any day now, but was wondering how to tackle this monster of a page. My part time job is my coin income source (with an occasional sale of an item from around the house " don't get too comfortable Fluffy! ") and I bring in about $500 per month. Should I pick off the lower denominations first, hold off a couple of months and grab an Eagle or more time for a Double Eagle?

How about saving for the double eagle and if a really good deal comes along for any of the lower denominations then you'll have the money or close to it to jump on that deal. if nothing comes up then when you have enough cash you get the gold $20.00 and repeat. Ed ANA LM-3175

about 6 years ago is how I did mine. Since there is no time machine I really have no clue how to go about filling the Gold page any longer. The coins I paid $100.00 for are now selling for close to $500.00 so I have no idea how someone on a budget like mine would ever fill the Gold page now unless they bought other coins and resold them to build up a gold fund or something. I started with the Larger coins (but they were the price of the dollars then at around 500-600 bucks) and its according to the budget you have, if you have a small budget I would probably get the ones I could afford now and fill the holes and then save up for the expensive ones. I can handle 2 or 3 hols allot better than the hole page being empty

At the rate you've been going with the rest of the set, I don't see you being able to go a couple months with nothing arriving in the mail.

Buy already graded better dates (CAC preferred if you are only seeing pictures) rather than largely bullion coins, and don't rush. I wasted a lot of money in first few years of building my collection ignoring those points.

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "7070" collection?

I'm currently saving up for a nice $10 Eagle in low MS. There are some nice ones availible for not that much more than spot.

Quote: Excuse my ignorance, but what is a "7070" collection? Dansco Item #7070 Album, considered the prototypical choice for collecting a US Type Set. There are plenty of ways of doing a Type Set, and plenty of other albums, but Dansco's 7070 is so popular that it's become a generic term for the set, much like "aspirin."

I started in on the gold page, but the way I buy my coins (undervalued/undergraded), I've had the habit of selling them for a very nice profit when gold jumps. For instance, I bought a Quarter Indian 1914 below spot a couple of months ago, when gold was about $1600. I'm itching so bad to sell it, it's not even in my album.

when I bought something for my album it was to never be sold no matter how much profit could be made. I had to break that rule when the divorce was going on and I needed cash fast and that set was just about the most valuable coins I had that could be replaced down the road so reluctantly I did break it up and sold some of the coins. I have never bought a coin thinking I would sell for a profit at the time of buying them. I have bought bars and that was with the intent to sell one day but never any coins
