I was given this uncleaned coin by another member, and since I don't think I have the experience to tackle this one, I'd like to pass it on to one of you. I can see a bust and details on the back. If you think you can rescue it--send me a PM.

Im sorry...its too fqr gone. still a nice thing. You should leave it in oil for a whil and see if you cant get any muck off, then try picking at the green.

Looks to me like the green is the coin surface and the brown is dirt that can be carefully picked off with a sharp pin and pin vise.

Thanks for the input! I don't have time to clean it, but if someone wants a crack at it--send me a PM.

Echizento--thanks again for the PM--and your offer to clean--and send back. I had intended it as a giveaway, but I'll enjoy seeing the results of your work!

Here are the results from cleaning the coin. It is a 19 mm Roman provinical of the emperor Gordian III from Nicaea. I tried to perserve most of the green patina. The obverse is in better condition than the reverse, it is off center so most of the legend is missing except from the last few letters of ANOC AV. The bust appears to be bare headed. The reverse is three standards with the letters NI-K-AE between the standards and omega N. I was not able to find a reference number for this coin. Sorry for the bad pictures.

Wow--that got there pretty fast! Course, we're in the same state. Nice to see you brought out some more detail--great job!

Yeah it did get here fast. I tried to bring out as much detail as I could without effecting the patina. I used to live in MA in Yarmouthport on the Cape until two years ago.
