10/18 31 AD Tiberius has Sejanus arrested and executed for plotting an overthrow. Sejanus was summoned to a meeting of the Senate, where a letter from Tiberius was read condemning Sejanus and ordering his immediate execution. Sejanus was tried, and he and several of his colleagues were executed within the week. As commander of the Praetorian Guard, he was replaced by Naevius Sutorius Macro.

10/22 363 AD Jovian reinstitutes anti-pagan laws abolished by Julian II. He was Roman Emperor from 363 to 364. Upon the death of emperor Julian during his campaign against the Sassanid Persians, Jovian was hastily declared emperor by his soldiers. Jovian sought peace with the Persians on humiliating terms, and reestablished Christianity as the favored religion of the Empire.

Jovian has a strong case for having the most boring coins of the era. With the exception of the scarce AE1 he issued to replace Julian's bulls,

all we see are AE3 with Vota reverses. Julian as Augustus had the same AE3 reverse but he had those interesting military portraits. Jovian could have thrilled collectors for millenia to come with some nice overtly Christian restoration types but instead we got what we got. They are coins only a numismatist could love.
