So in my endless quest to find out everything I can about coins, I wanted to see if I would be correct in calling this a die chip, you cant really see it well in the picture but it looks like the IN are connected together on this quarter.

Also what would cause this,just environment damage?

Can't really see what you are talking about in the first photo.The second is as you described.

Hard to tell. Just remember if you can't see it in the photos neither can we. Most people on this forum try not to give guesses to what something could be. Better pictures and a good description of what you think is wrong with the coin will lead to alot of good answers and information.
