Does anyone know a good source for authenticating a 1484 half guildiner? I took a measurement and it is 36mm. We took it to a local coin dealer and he found the coin and dish to be solid silver. I found the same design on this website but it was plated. The dealer offered $100 for silver weight but knew little about it. Any information would be appreciated.
Thanks

That is interesting, looks like someone made an ashtray out of it.

Hi. I have the exact same item. Did you ever get it authenticated? There is a place in Chicago that can authenticate it, but I just haven't had the time to get there. If the coin is truly a 1484 half guildiner (it looks like one), then it must be worth quite a bit.

Hope you see this and reply.

Looking at the arms(shields) on the reverse I suspect the coin is a replika.....the lines are just too straight and well formed ie they are too sharp for a coin of that age and era. However there is one way of checking has the dish got any hallmarks on it?

I have the same piece, but there is a handle on it. Looking at your photo, it looks like yours had one at one point (solder).I wondering if anyone found out any more about it.
Thanks

Bad news: The coin seems to have been made at the same time as the dish, which is definitely not 1484.
