I wonder if anybody can translate the nick name of following coin / jeton ("Burgfriedbereitungsgroschen") into English, I personally have failed to do so.

Hmm, a "Burgfriedbereitungsgroschen" would be a Groschen that commemorates a Burgfriedbereitung. :) Now what is that? Certainly not a term that is used in modern German ... In former times, a Burgfried(en) was the territory around a castle. In a broader sense it referred to the area where the local law applied. How do you find out, and let others know, where the limits of such a territory are? You ride (hence "Bereitung") along the border.

If you understand German, have a look at this catalog page. I did not know the word either. ;) The paragraph explains that such a "Burgfried-Bereitung" could well take several days, as disputed points/lines might have to be compared to existing treaties or other documents ...

A similar English custom was "Beating the Bounds"

Amazing, this must be the most accurate explanation of that coin and the actions behind it.

Thank you Christian for doing a great job. I am delighted to learn something new!
