I usually don't bother checking out the Coinstar machine at my local grocery store for "rejects" simply because there's usually a line of people waiting to redeem their coins. Today, though, there was nobody so I sauntered over. There was nothing in the reject bin, but somebody had left a little stack of coins next to the input basket. The stack included two abused Lincoln Memorial cents, one abused Lincoln Shield cent, one Canadian nickel, and this: OK, so it's not rare and the condition is rough, but it still brought a smile to my face. Oh -- and then I decided to get a $20 scratch ticket on a whim and ended up winning $50, so that was nice too...

Cool find! Jbuck, I'm the same way. I can go buy a nice example of a coin (well most coins) at a coin shop, but you can't buy the experience of finding an old/cool coin in the wild.

Exactly how I feel about every Wheat cent I find. They may not be worth much, but we all know that they are far from being a common find in regular commerce. Finding it is more rewarding than the cent itself.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who gets excited about wheat cents :) What a great find. It looks like it's been used every day since it was minted! Sometimes you get the feeling that someone put someone's collection in the coinstar or to the bank, which is sad, but it will get added to someone else's, which is the circle of life I suppose.
I always check whenever I walk past, but I haven't found anything in a while. Once I found a whole bunch of steel cents. That made my day.

When I walked by my store's Coinstar, I saw a coin under the machine. I checked and it was an 1983 Lincoln Cent but then I noticed there were 3 coins in the dump bin. One 2008 Roosevelt dime, and 2 more Lincolns, one a 1957 wheatie! It made my day and I walked out 14 cents richer!! It was a good day, Tater!!

Hey, that's awesome. Pretty sweet that you've found a piece of history that's been in (what certainly looks like) near continuous circulation for almost 90 years!

Any coin in the little stack that you found would be one more than I have ever found at a Coinstar machine.
