I've had this penny in my collection for a very long time, I have a couple MS grade steel penny''s but none of them look like this one. Almost looks plated? What do you guys think?

It is indeed plated....look at the edge...if the edge looks the same as the rest of the coin it has been replated. Originals have exposed steel on the edges

Yes, it looks plated. Another way to check on pieces purportedly BU is to check the cartwheel.

it looks real. If it was plated, I think the design would not be as sharp

Looks plated to me too. It's a lot easier to tell with coin in hand though. John1

Way back when it was common for the 1943 cents to be "reprocessed." Steel cents were subject to rusting, corrosion and such. So they were plated and sold as reprocessed coins. I believe you have one of these examples.

The obverse had me thinking but the reverse really gives it away. Plated, but worth more than a penny :)

Quote: It is indeed plated....look at the edge...if the edge looks the same as the rest of the coin it has been replated. Originals have exposed steel on the edges I agree. The best verification is to look at the edge. From the photos it looks plated, especially the bubbles in the fields that acloco mentioned. Still, I would like to see the edge to be certain.

I've got one that looks the exact same, and was told it was plated.
kinda was a bummer, since it seemed in perfect condition, but I still kept it, just b/c it looked cool.

the real way to tell if its plated or not is to look at the edge. If the edge looks shiny like the rest of the coin then its definitely plated. An original unplated one will be dull on the edge because the sheets were plated and then they punched the planchets out of the sheets. So the edge isn't plated like the rest of the coin. You7 would have to take it out of the 2x2 to see this but still you would know for sure if you have any doubts

Basically what Bryan1315 said except that coins details look clear. Plated ones normally have much of the wheat details blurry. And yes the tips of the Wheat is rather on the blurry side so might be replated but not really sure. Not all of the really Uncirculated ones also are similar. I have well over 2,000 of those and many rolls of Uncirculated ones from back in the 40's and many look similar.

I am sticking with my first opinion that its real. As has been stated, look at the edge and/or give us a picture of the edge if you can.
