a local hotel in the area is holding a "coin show"
i know they're very bad with "selling to them" because they buy coins and silver at crap but on the buying category, are they typically over prices?
any details?

Very simple two rules for success at these hotel 'shows'.....
1. Don't sell anything.
2. Don't buy anything.

Educate yourself. Know what grade you have/want. Know what that grade is worth. Do not get double talked.

My advice: stay away from hotel shows. Even if they're selling anything, it's way overpriced. They're probably just like most "cash for gold" scammers: they're buying, but not selling.

Stay away, stay far away.
Note: the M.O. for these guys is usually a full page add in the local paper showing various coins and the huge price they sold for. Then they set up in the local Ramada Inn for the weekend. They use to incorporate the term "road show" somewhere in their name but I don't think they do that any more.
If you do go, be on your guard. Good luck.

There is a world of difference between a "coin show" (which are often held at hotels) and "hotel coin buyers". The former is often an excellent place to learn, purchase coins and also sometimes not a bad place to sell certain coins. The latter you probably shouldn't waste your time visiting for any endeavour.
