I didn't notice this until I was listing the coin on ebay. It looks like a number '1' on the lower front portion of Victoria's bust.Does anyone have an idea what may have caused it. It doesn't look like PMD to me, but then again I'm no expert on the matter. Thanks!

No, I haven't taken the listing down, but it isn't an active listing for a few hours yet and that could be the problem. I'll post the pics here instead.

It appears to be post mint damage. If it was a dropped letter/number, it would match the fonts to the existing. It doesn't match up with any of the numbers/letters on the coin.

Some one used a stamp to put a number 1 on the coin for some unknown reason.

Shame.. A low mintage Newfoundland .50 cents too, that someone used a stamp of some kind on.

nothing more than a counterstamp...But I have heard of folks back then marking there money to prevent theft.So maybe this guy marked his coin s with a number 1 in case of theft or loss he could reclaim it ? Its a thought
