Hi,
I have posted an intro in the intro section but just wanted to say a hello here in the Australian section.
I dont really have a pattern for my collection, I just collect what I like!
I have only really just started noodling in the last few weeks and to be honest I kind of considered it cheating to get coins in bulk from the bank and pick my way through them, rather than find different ones in change!
But now I can't stop!
So far I have noodled $600 of $1 coins, $100 of 20 cent pieces and $1000 of 50 cent pieces.
I am picking coins up one day, noodling in the dead of night and returning them and getting more the next day!
I am using the McDonald book as a guide but could someone help me with a few questions please?
In the $1 coins I am keeping an eye out for $1 mules and rabbit ear roos. Is there any others I should keep an eye out for?
In the 20 cents I am looking for 2004 pointed "A"s (have found a couple of these), any commeratives, 1966 and 1981. Is it worth keeping any others?
I have been keeping 1974's and earlier but not sure if it is worth doing if they are heavily circulated?
In the 50 cents I have been looking out for incused 2000 (none yet, rapidly becoming my white whale!).
I have been keeping most of the commeratives, in particular all Rams, silver jubilee, royal wedding, first fleet, "wide date" year of the family (find heaps of the narrow date, thought the narrow date was rarer?), royal visit, federation state issues. The rest I am just cherry picking as there are so many.
I have also been keeping any 1997 (have about 15 of these), 1993 (no 1985 as yet), just wondering if I should keep any 1974 and earlier 50 cent pieces?

Thank you in advance,
2MinuteNoodler

My rule of thumb is the mintage is less than 10 million, keep it. Also look out for 1983 and 1984 20c pieces as most were melted down (and so the mintages given are not a good guide).
Also, anything in reasonable condition that wasn't in a mint set (1967 and 1968 coins especially) could be worth hanging on to.

I would check for rotated/upset coins; the 2010 50 cent Coat of Arms, 2001 centenary of federation dollar, 2001 20 cent coin (probably the hardest to find of the rotateds)
1994 Family wides are much scarcer, though not many chase them up, and the pointy A 20 cent should go for more than it does....
Seems most of the Rotated 2010 50 cent coins have been found in NSW.
Good luck!!

What have you managed to find in your noodling so far? Don't forget those mintmark coins and nclt not issued for circulation that you can sometimes find and also mint set only years.

Thank you, everyone is very friendly here!

Thanks for the tips on the 83 and 84, I had completely missed them, will double check and also check for rotated 2001's.
I have been keepng an eye out for rotated 2010 50 cents but none as yet.
So far I have found maybe 10 3.5 claw 1981, a die crack 20 cent, 6 $1 rabbit ear roos and an assortment of rim Cuds and imperfections.
When I noodle, I usually sit on the couch and watch TV and go through the coins on my lap, I think I need to sit down at a desk and do it, I am forgetting which ones to look for and am missing too much!

On 28th july I posted a list of variations under the subject 'variations'
Or, if you search the word ' gleaned ' you should find it.
