Here is the link to the article:

And here are the designs. The first is the $5 MacArthur gold, the second is the Eisenhower/Marshall silver dollar, and the third is the Arnold/Bradley clad half-dollar coin:

Pretty nice looking designs, if you ask me.

The Aircraft carrier would have actually gotten me to get my first gold coins.

Honestly I'm no longer that excited about these. The obverses I like but the reverses especially on the Silver Dollar are meh at best

Edit: I should also add that I dont like that they recycled the reverse for two of the coins. I get the lamp is significant but 1 coin is enough.

Heres a link for everyone who is interested in what the designs being considered were
http://news.coinupdate.com/cfa-desi...-coins-1459/

And after looking at it again the worst part of all of this is they took 3 of the half dollar proposed designs and used them for the reverses which I thought had the worst group by far. Completely disregarded the silver dollar and gold dollar reverse designs which actually had some fantastic ones.

Wow, I'm sorry, but this is awful.
How exactly are they going to do the script on the dollar coin, which appears black?

Oh well.

there is allot of better designs than the ones they picked for the Reverses. I love the one with the Eagle and plane and ship for the $5.00 Reverse and also like the soldier Reverse. I like the Eagle for the half also. They seemed to pick the easiest to draw instead of the best design.

I believe this would have been the design most people could relate to for how important the commanding officers were though because you know it took some real commanding to get all these scared troops to walk out and be used as target practice like they were. But was also something that HAD to be done. They had to really trust their commanding officer and believe in what they were being told to have the courage to do that though. I couldn't imagine the courage it took for all of them to be able to even stand up to walk

I have no idea why the generals should be commemorated.
The blokes that gave the ultimate sacrifice when they knew darn well that the chances of survival were slim at best and STILL did their duty should be commemorated and honored.
I am ex Military and have a deep distrust of "Officers" BUT had an absolute trust in my fellow soldiers in arms.
So why not dump this idea and commemorate the average Joe that actually did the job instead of the blokes that sent them to do it

FWIW they have done the infantry commemorative for the army and a marine core one, still waiting on the navy fingers crossed. I have no problem with the brass being commemorated, they were important leaders in history who did make some daring decisions to change the war, but pick designs that are fitting like the one Bryan posted and not the easiest to draw. If youre going to commemorate something do it right, no shortcuts

There can never be too many.

I am thinking about getting the dollar because it has Eisenhower on it and I need to fill the Commemorative Dollar hole in the 7070. I was thinking about the 1990 Eisenhower Commemorative, but I already have one in the 1990 Prestige Set (one of the rare cases of a proof set that I will never break apart).
