Need-Help-To-ID-Commemorative--Coin?

I picked up a Queen Victoria 1819-1901
commemorative coin cover, have not a clue what the item is along with the stamps, thanks for any help.

The reverse has the Queen, modern portrait.
Paid 7 dollars at a thrift store..it looks like maybe a gold plate coin?

It is about size of a quarter, sure looks like gold?

The coin in your post is a 2001 British sovereign, that is Queen Elizabeth, not Victoria. They have .2354 oz of AGW. You really need to take that into a jewelers or a coin store to be tested if it real, if it is you are one lucky SOB!!

Thanks RD, yes I'm aware of the Queen Elizabeth, but it was inserted in
a 2001 Queen Victoria commemorative coin cover.

Do not collect stamps, still not sure if gold, will keep checking, thanks

this was the item, why would a gold coin be in it? Will take to the coin store.

There are many coins in First Day Covers (FDCs) it was a way to meet the demands of both stamp and coin markets. I have seen many silver and gold coins in covers. It looks like a sovereign to me. You would need to weigh it and get measurements for sure. Here is a website that has covers with sovereigns in them for sale http://www.bfdc.co.uk/producers/ben...s/page1.html.

At .2354 AGW, .9167 fine, the gross weight of the coin should be 7.9874 grammes.
With remedy allowance, look for 7.98 to 8.00 grammes. Get it weighed very accurately to confirm.

I just weighed it with my basic home scale it read 8 grams, so likely in the right
ballpark, may go to a post office and check? store is closed today, thanks for reading. seems more genuine then a fake?

Hi folks, went to coin store, the clerk only weighed it no
other tests, and offered me 400 dollars :) not bad for a thrift store find. :)
