I've been keeping my collection in Renniks brand banknote sleeves for a number of months now and I just realised the other day that I have no idea whether they PVC or harmful to the notes in any other way.

Are there any users of Renniks products that know if they are safe. I'm pretty sure they are safe considering they were somewhat expensive and Renniks is a well-known Australian publications company. But just to be on the safe side, I want closure.

Thanks.

I just checked their website and I found 4 Currency sleeves listed. Two (2) were Basic sleeves made of PVC, and two (2) were Premium made of vinyl. Unless you have a product number, I am not sure which you have.

Their numbers listed are:

BASIC 176 BANKNOTE SLIPCASE {341221}
BASIC 210 BANKNOTE SLIPCASE {341222}
PREMIUM 176 BANKNOTE SLIPCASE PKT 10 {339346}
PREMIUM 210 BANKNOTE SLIPCASE {339345}

I personally have no experience in using their products.

The ONLY storage material I would recomend for banknote storage is Mylar.
This the stuff that high value individual stamps are stored in.
Mylar sleeves are not all that expensive to buy. They are impervious to atmospheric moisture, and are inert.

I am sure that Rennicks will suppy Mylar storage sleeves on request.

I've looked up articles on PVC holders and they said how to test if your sleeves are Mylar or PVC. Based on those quick tests, it seems my sleeves are PVC. Theres a show coming up in December, and I remember last time this show was on there were dealers selling storage systems. I think I'll wait til then to replace these PVC ones. I don't think in that time the sleeves will cause any damage? Or will it?!!? :O

I personally would not risk it. I'm not sure where you are but as it gets hotter, whatever reactions happen in the PVC will most likely happen faster.
