I just bought the $224.95 fine silver proof set and I was just wondering what I can do to prevent the coins from toning.

I know to some collectors, they prefer to have their sets toned over time. I'm the opposite and would like them to stay as mint as possible.

What do you guys suggest? Would it be advisable to superglue the plastic casing shut entirely to keep it airtight or would that be considered ruining the set?

Opinions please! :)

The quick answer that I can think of is to put the set in a clip lock plastic bag, with a small packet of silica gel.

My mother used to collect proof sets, and she always kept the Post Office mailer box the proof sets came in. That makes it easy to put the silica gel in the clip lock bag, before putting that back into the mailer box.

All of the mailer boxes were just put into a large corrugated cardboard box, which was just pushed under a bed. No problems with dust in storing the proof sets that way.

I agree that using silica gel packets will help but I strongly advise against using any type of super glue as IMO the fumes from that product may cause damage to the coins.... I always stay away from super glue or like adhesives around my coins. This is, of course, just my opinion.

Super glue would NOT be the way to go. The acrylic case is almost certainly going to look as if it was repaired, therefore not original.
