I was recently given a Snap-On Tool knife display case that I would like to modify for displaying my coins. The case has two rectangular sections and each section had a molded plastic insert to display the Snap-On knives. The front door has a large, single piece of plexi-glass. My first thought would be to simply put some thick foam sheets (covered w/ black material for looks) in the bottom and put the coins on top. The plexiglass would rest against the coin holders when the door is closed, securing the coins in place. That would work if the display is set flat on a table, but I want to stand it upright on an easel. I don't think the coins on display will stay in place if it is stood-upright. Thoughts on a better method to use?

Anything Snap-On is expensive in the retail world and pricey in the secondary market. You may want to check ebay and see what these are bringing. You may be able to get enough money to buy two coin cases.

I think the coin holders will stay in place if there is sufficient pressure between the foam and the plexiglass. That is, you want it to be that when the door is closed, it presses the coin holders into the foam (not necessarily flush, depending on the foam density).

That being said, I think mds308 is right. Snap-On is high dollar. You might be able to sell it and buy a case designed to display holdered coins.

I'm having a hard time picturing what you are describing in my head.
