I'd call it VG10. $35 or so

VG10 for this particular coin is listed as $230 in the PCGS price guide. I understand that it is not in a TPG holder, and shows some discoloration on the obverse. I would think it would be worth a bit more than $35 though. I have been trying to locate a nice example for my 7070 album, but it is simply prohibitive in the higher grades

this one looks a little porous also but it isn't that bad so I doubt it would ever make it in a PCGS problem free holder at VG-10. I think it may be a $90-100.00 coin myself. Any classic head Large Cent is a nice find though in my opinion especially if they aren't so corroded you can't even see much of the details. They are pretty easy to find in these lower grades like this and thats what keeps the price down on them but if you find one in AU or above in problem free condition you may want to bring your check book because they are never cheap

I agree that the coin I am looking at is probably a $90 - $100 coin. Almost every single early large or Half Cent is at least "a little porous". If you find one that isn't, expect to pay full retail for the grade. I think this coin could make it into a problem free slab. Not if it were any other series other than large or Half Cent, but TPGs allow some leeway with these.

sorry, this may not relate, but why are the letters the exact same on the holder for front and back? I can spot no difference at all. were those letters printed, or could a person really write the exact same way that close? notice in the lower left hand corner, three dots are exactly the same. I'm not saying that the coin is bad, but why so similar?

That is a penny... (Or, to be technical, a cent, like an Indian or a Lincoln or an FE...)
Those aren't die cracks on the obverse left, that's a problem with the planchet. I've bought from Chuck, too. Sometimes when you buy from him, you have to expect to pay full retail even when the coin isn't quite there...
I believe that's an S-281, an R1 variety.
