Here's a quote from the SCWPM 17th edition:
With paper money, it is nearly impossible to acquire uncirculated specimens from a number of countries because of export laws or internal bank procedures.
That gets me wondering, what countries have such import laws today or had them in the past ?
What UNC notes are/were hard to obtain for this reason ?

I don't know, so this is purely based on observation but I've NEVER seen UNC Euros.

Hmmm, I'm not sure, I think I can get UNC Euro notes quite easily here in Montreal. I went to a currency exchange place the other day and they had some. Also, there are so many available on ebay which makes me think they must be quite easy to get.

Quote: ...internal bank procedures. India is a good example of this second category. Banknotes are printed, then stapled together by the banks prior to issue. Finding an un-stapled Indian note is rare indeed. As for the main topic of this thread, the first category, I'm not aware of any countries currently having prohibitions on cash exports in place, except perhaps the few remaining communist countries (Cuba, North Korea, etc). For most other countries, such bans are usually only temporary, when a new currency system or new note design is introduced. Here in Australia, for example, exporting decimal coins and banknotes without a permit was prohibited from 1966 to about 1968.

@Sap I have 3 sets of Solid Serial Numbers & 1 Fancy Serial Number set (#10,20,30 etc.) from India and know 2 Sets have staple holes, and may have a set w/out staple holes... Thinking of posting photos to inquire about current values as I don't remember what I paid or what they're worth...

Uncirculated fivers may be somewhat difficult to get (most €5 notes, and €10 too, that I come across in circulation here are fairly worn), but the other denominations? And as from May, you will be able to get crisp unc €5 notes - the new generation is coming. :) Christian

When I get foreign notes, always greenbacks, from a bank or ForEx here in Oz, more often than not, they are crisp Unc consecutives. I hate spending them.

When I was over in the ROK (95-96) I picked up a few NK notes (they featured "work ethic" images)...I remember last putting them in the DMZ book that I bought when we were going up to Camp Bonifas. Five military moves later I wonder where that box of stuff is at? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Camp_Bonifas

I was also in the ROK 95-96 at Garry Owen with the 2ID Cavalry. Small world. I showed my Kim Il Sung 100 won note to a KATUSA in our office and he did not speak to me for a long time.
