That coin is nice! Paddy B, have you seen mine, I consider my Charlie the anchor coin of my halfcrown collection. I also have the 1635 which is on Page 97 of this thread.   Looks a bit like mine! But to keep the rules of this thread going - Here is my latest coin I bought tonight an 1826 in gVG (I can't afford Fine always and generally many pre Victoria are G - VG and Fine or better cost hundreds, this coin was really cheap at just $25 (£11 - 12)   My goal is to get the Halfcrowns complete back to 1874 and as many of the earlier ones as possible. The goal is to have one from each reign and a real quest to get a gold Halfcrown of Henry VIII 3rd coinage and a Edward VI dated one. I nearly bought a worn Commonwealth (Not Cromwell, but the God with us shield one) for like $800. Then I will move on to Florins and I am also working on copper, NZ coins and Fiji amongst my main collections. Edited by Princetane

Not picking up so much with the shutdown - my usual sources are either people bringing things to me at market, or local auction houses. (The big online auctions get far too expensive for me!) Here is one I picked up just before the shutdown:   |

Again a stunning piece, my latest buy up is mainly after being in lockdown for 5 weeks! PaddyB do you and I just seem to have a life imitating art type thing going on. As you show your 1893 Victoria halfcrown in what is at elast EF, I can pony up the exact same coin in a condition just one grade down in VF   Here is my 1893 Halfcrown in VF! - I bought in December last year and got it quite cheap (About $65 our money - £30) It's a lovely design, that Old Head Victoria coinage for the shilling, Florin and Halfcrown is just beautiful with pseudo gothic overtones meeting the high Victorian clutter ethos. |

It does whet my appetite and for once you may be pleased to know I don't have an equivalent coin yet. But given the speed at which I have taken up collecting and getting halfcrowns, it could be just a few weeks before I do.
6 months ago I had only 3 Cupronickel British halfcrowns - now its close to 60. So who knows.
That William and Mary design is beautiful and your coin is lovely too. The Glorious revolution, may have seen a sea change in the role of the monarch, but they decided to keep the harmony of coins at least.

Cute little farthings! My latest purchase won 2 hours ago - a more different half crown and at the other end of the date scale, its exactly 300 years younger than Charlie!   A 1970 Proof coin - the seller had obviously borken up the set a long time ago and there are streaks and fingerprints and plus it fills the gap, I am hardly buying a proof set to break it up (I will buy the set, but keep it intact). Best thing about this coin - it cost me $4 (£1.80 or US$2.35). That is not even a cup of coffee for a gleaming 50 year old coin!  |

Just bought my Birthday present - are you ready to have your socks blown off. This goes beyond William and Mary and Charles II. This is a ........   Yes a clipped COMMONWEALTH halfcrown dated 1656 in around Fine condition. I know a coin this clipped is real and it shows the signs of a hard life. I was not going to buy it, but the seller who usually gives lame discounts gave me 20% off. Some of these unclipped Half crowns sell for like $5000 - $7000 etc, this one, even though its worn and clipped and some blue gunk is there too cost me just $500NZ (£235 or USD 285). I have only seen Commonwealth coins to a 6d and never even a halfcrown before. It really fills in some big gaps. Hope you guys like it. |

@Princetane, I'd get some acetone on that to dissolve the PVC residue. It will not harm the coin nor its surfaces. An equally exciting gift for myself today, but not intentional, nor expected. I love Gothic Florins and sometimes sellers here in the US will list them without dates, since they don't know how to translate the Roman numerals.
