Today I picked up some Australian Florins with a man who competes with me in my Halfcrown and Florin buying endeavours (And some creamy ones are on their way thanks to AndyG) This mans coin collection gave me kiniptions. He had all the following and I held them (Spink invoices, Bowers and Merena etc). 1658 Cromwell milled Crown in AU condition (Worth around £20,000) - it had lustre 1551 Crown and Halfcrown both EF/VF 1601 Elizabeth Crown with 1 mintmark - EF 1567 Milled Elizabeth shilling - gVF 1723 George I Milled Crown with SSC 1690s William and Mary and William Halfcrowns 1834 UNC William IV Halfcrown with pooled lustre 1604 James I second coinage crown (Mintmark Lis) EF 1625 Charles I first coinage crown 1656 Commowealth Crown with sun mintmark, gVF All if hammered had near perfect strikes, the Elizabeth 1601 crown was my favourite. zookeeperz Pillar of the Community United Kingdom 698 Posts	Posted 03/11/2021 4:52 pm Another area of our great pastime is the multitude of sub varieties of a particular dated coin. Weather it be from different die pairings, mules or errors and overdates. Here is a fairly new discovery from the Victoria Bronze Penny age date 1898. This variety is regarding the number 8 used in the dates and to be more specific the 2nd 8 . On the first 8 where the figure 8 bisects the centre you can see if you were to draw and imaginary line across from one line to another they do not line up and go off at different angles. Hope I explained it in an understandable way lol The 2nd 8 we draw the same imaginary line they line up perfectly obviously these are 2 different 8's. Known as Gouby 1898Ca bisected 8 penny UNC value £400+. Although not anywhere near that condition its a solid middle grade GVF and is the newest addition to the family :) Report this Post to the Staff

This coin has a few oddities but they need to be fully checked Like the H of Half Struck over lower H struck over a smaller H only the 8 in the date is struck once which is unusual in itself 6 has been re punched ans the 2 seems to be a cut and shut as in I believe a smaller 2 was struck and the upper part removed or broken and has a repair half way up. You can see the base of the underlying 2 is much smaller and pokes out below the larger 2. As I said needs further investigation but pics below :) Report this Post to the Staff

Until you start looking for them, you don't realise how scarce Victorian Bun Head halfpennies are in better than VG/Fine. Far more attention has been paid in the past to the pennies, and there must be some interesting varieties that still await discovery. Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 03/17/2021 1:09 pm Time to start showing my new haul from AndyG I got 12 Halfcrowns and 18 Florins Showing every coin may be overkill here, so I will show you the highlights and everything I will put on my Collection thread. 1818 Halfcrown, this is a nice coin - at least Fine (Although possibly cleaned well in the past) 1829 Much more worn (High Good to aVG) but this coin is not cleaned, a scarce date and a nice circulation cameo. 1842 Victoria, a scarce date and typical of the usual aF - Fine condition of these pieces. I love also the crudely inserted 4 on the date slug. I have also noticed many of my gothic florins have crammed in date numbers as well.
