Some more halfcrowns.   1844   1850 the last year of circulating halfcrowns to make way for the Gothic Florins. Proofs came in 1851, 53 and 64.   1874 the revival of the half crown after 24 years. Both coins could coexist in mid Victorian England. The new coins had the same design as the older ones, except more crudely done. |

Lovely! I find that Victorian Young Head halfcrowns are always undervalued in the catalogues. On ebay a Fair to VG specimen seems to sell for the catalogue value of a Fine to VF coin. |

@Princetane. very nice additions. Now you made me want more myself. Ideally I would love own all the Gothic florins in GVF+ plus the gothic crown. But alas it is more a pipe dream than any chnace that happening in reality. ;)

Those are stunning and the 1950 is a scarce coin, only a few hundred k minted and they were sent to the Caribbean apparently. Some more halfcrowns   1882 Fairly worn, historically cleaned - but I got them cheap, they are better than they look. Wornish but look close and traces of fine detail remain. Even by British standards these are well above VG and almost pushing Fine - most I would grade aFine, the 1886 coin may just cinch Fine. Most of you probably know there is quite a big drop from fine (Most detail at least visible) to very good (A silhouette with pieces of detail).   1886 - a decent coin (Close to or even Fine)   1895 Halfcrown, an average example (Many of these I always see super worn, but as you all know my 1896 and 1897 examples are very high grade (AU territory) so gVG - aFine coins kind of look like that Monty Python sketch of Working class vs Upper class! A couple of upgrades arrived yesterday: 1881 Sixpence - great condition despite the cleaning, which is much less obvious in hand.  1920 Halfcrown - very common date but difficult to get in decent condition:  |

Don't worry cleaning is the scourge of British coins at the moment, especially anything we get here down under in our humid and warm climate which ensures any silver coin turns black very quickly.
Great 1920 Halfcrown - I find any coin of that date is always worn or nasty! Yet 1921 and 1922 coins are easy to find in nice condition.
Was this contempt over the fact they debased the silver that year.

Some more of those golden florins   1874 - another decent piece - some design coming through   1878 - another beautiful coin   1879 uneven wear, almost Fine obverse, barely VG reverse   1885 - nice late coin again the reverse is more worn than obverse I find the Gothic Florins are beautiful but the shields were raised and many are worn almost flat even at VF condition - still I love these coins and have a good base to build on! |

Final group of Florins   1890 Near Fine/Fine coin - possibly cleaned. The comments on this design said they looked like Tea Trays and Pokers!   1892 - Another fine and original piece. This is a scarce year and I am glad to have a decent example. I now have all the Jubilee Florins except 1887! The commonest!   1894 Florin, Fine - I love these old head coins too!   1898 - Another gorgeous old head Finally 2 moderns (By this standard)   1913 aFine, worn but actually the lowest mintage of all the sterling GV Florins - so a key date, just missing 1911 of this series now and as you all know my 1912 is shiny gEF!   1947 EF or better, Andy kindly threw this in for free and its worth so much more. Incredibly hard to get the early Cupronickel in this shape. Thanks to AndyG and these have really moved my collection up. |
