I've been seeing very nice gold and silver here lately. Even though not a British coin, here is something British I bought from a local auction very recently. It cost me 40,5 Pounds worth of Turkish lira, and it is in an attractive Gem UNC state.

I don't collect much banknotes, but my story with this note is, when I first traveled to the UK in year 2000, these are all around. Back few years later, I saved a circulated one when they were disappearing, replaced by the Adam Smith 20 Pounds. Now I had some extra money, I replaced my circulated one with an Uncirculated one. Even though modern banknotes often not gaining in value in time it's nice to have one in my folder to remember bygone times.

I inherited quite a large collection that had some really nice ones in, so I post those as I get a chance to go through them..
Some are from ebay, but I'm usually only buying things that are cheap on the off-chance it's better than it looks in the (usually terrible) photos, or snapping up cheaper big bundles of pre-47 coins for scrap. Occasionally there's something worth keeping in those.
The 1926's were an £8 ebay BiN.
Today's pre-20's came from a UK coin dealer that doesn't always have photos, but has pretty consistent accuracy on lower grade coins in my experience. Not sure if forum rules preclude me from saying who as they're not an advertiser.

Nice florins, Gainn!

molydeii - when those £20 notes with Edward Elgar were introduced, there was some controversy because the house with the chimney in front of the Cathedral on the reverse is still standing and is a private residence. I think the owners got so fed up with people coming to gawp at 'the house that's on the £20 note' that they eventually sold up!

I'm tempted to soak this one in some good old H2O because the darker parts appear to just be some schmooze sitting on the surface.

Just need to get a 1927 proof florin now.
I'm discovering it's a bit more difficult to find a proof that I like than the standard ones.

It was Dan. Although the coins are low grade you have more than £50 worth of bullion scrap silver there and, indeed, a couple are good enough to be worth more than scrap value so well done.

Crowns and half-crowns aren't my focus, but I'd have taken those for £50 even if they were mostly flat.

Fantastic I'm well pleased, is there a way of cleaning them with out damaging them or shall I leave them?
