You know if you really like the edges of coins and the new dollar coins of the US are interesting to you based on the edge lettered design ,, maybe the place to look is outside the USA. I think we could take a lesson from some of the other countries who have been doing this as well as other things with the edges of their coins for a long time !! Have any intertesting edge lettered or edge design coins ? Please share some pics in this thread !! I will get it started with a small stack of interesting and uniquely edged world coins top coin -1995 ten dollars Hong Kong next coin -1990 Great Britain 1 crown 3rd - 1998 Hong Kong 2 dollars 4th - France 1980 2 franks 5th-1993 Hong Kong 5 dollars 6th- 1971 Mexico one peso libertad Metalman

You know, I have been emphasising coin edges for a looooooooooong time and I think it's finally overdue. Here is a post in coinpeople that was mentioned a long time ago. http://www.coinpeople.com/index.php?showtopic=437I will be posting my coin edges tomomorrow.

How about a Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle. Thats one edge lettered coin I'd love to add to my collection.

Cool thread Metalman! I opened my world coin box that I have not seen in years just to see. This is what I found. Top coin is a 1973 1 Gulden from the Netherlands. The bottom coin is a 1990 German 2 mark. Have loads of pesos but you already got those covered. Michael

i dont have a digital cam and my phone doesn't have the quality for the edges =[ these are from my scanner.. the first one is a draped bust half which were minted from 1796-1807 the second is a capped bust half dollar (1807-1839) they both say "FIFTY CENTS OR HALF A DOLLAR" on the edges this one is a saint-gaudens double eagle (1907-1933) the edge lettering on this says "|******|E*|PLURIBUS*|UNUM*****" im sorry for no edge photos =[

From my Lithuanian Pre World War II set. What I thought was neat was the only coin I had a duplicate of (1936 10 Litu) I had with letter orientation in each direction. (yeah like the Prezzy) I hadn't noticed till now. Joe

Some of those look quite interesting.
As time goes by and my eye sight dims, it may be a lot more important to me than I realize.

I do not have a camera so I can not show this But Belgium has a Position A and a Position B for edgelettering which may make a lot of monetary difference when buying or selling the coin If you put the coin on your hand with the obverse upwards and you cannot read the text that is position A if you can read the text that is postion B
