Moe,
You should not be surprised that this "Days of" is alive and kicking! It's just that
we Barber folk are a tad shy about sharing our interest in these 'oft-down-looked-upon' series. I believe that
people who have never seen nice Barbers do not know what they are missing. This topic provides
a wealth of material to study and to envy.

Trevor,
Your 'non-brag-worthy' examples are worthy of study so that when you possess a decent fine or very fine example
you will appreciate them all the more. Do not let LogPotato nor Elbesaar sour you on collecting even a few nice examples of these coins. They have deeper pockets than we do! And better luck!
DO study the pictures closely. That is the value of Moe's topic and I applaud it.

To anyone:
I just acquired, among six other upgrades to my dime collection, a 1905-O Micro Mint Mark
in VF-35 condition. May I introduce a discussion about this variety here?

Insult to injury: no sooner than I am released from the hospital than I spill liquid on my laptop rendering it
dead on arrival. I just acquired a 'new' reconditioned machine today. Thanks to Sis and Brother-in-Law.

It's good to be back!
Matthew

Welcome back Matthew.

I can only speak for myself, but I'd love to learn about the 1905-O Micro O variety--if and when you feel up to sharing.

for your Sis and Brother in law for helping getting you back online.

Please comment:
I understand [so far] that the 1905-O Micro Variety was not discovered until 1941.
I am led to believe that coin collecting got started when people had money but nothing to buy!
(WWII Rationing)
SO,
by the time people picked out Barber coins from circulation they were well-worn.
High grade 1905-O Micro Dimes were/are scarce.
Is this a good deduction?

Second:
I would like to take my dime along with a large O mint marked dime and a small O quarter and make an little
exhibit to teach the difference. To be exhibited in Manchester, NH this October.
I may need help with this.

Really, anything that you have to say will be read carefully.

First, I believe Howard Newcomb discovered the variety around 1912. High grade coins are still scarce considering. PCGS has graded 187 total coins with only 7 in MS not including resubmits. The bulk of the population is in G with a total of 69. I think it's safe to say even with the relatively early discovery, 7 years in circulation could have a great impact on these small coins. They are still out there though. I just picked one 2 weeks ago in VF, although cleaned.

Second, I would offer a quarter if I had one, but I haven't found the right coin for me yet. It's the last 1905-O dated Barber I need. I would be happy to loan my dimes though.

Edit to add: I do not have access to NGC pop reports or I would have added them.

I spied one on Collector's Corner earlier this evening. It's PCGS VF-30

My budget won't let me snap it up but if someone wants this variety, it's there for the picking.

Reserved for the last 5 coins:

1910

1911

1912

1912-D

1912-S

I hope everyone enjoyed seeing this set.
I recently sold many MS examples - as I
am truly more of an AU collector.

If I didn't have an AU 58 in my set,
I kept the MS example.

This link should take you to an auction to be held this Sunday.
It looks like a Micro "O" to me, although it is not stated on the holder.
I wonder what it will go for.

Not to rest my eyes from being blinded by those lovely nickels!
