There seems to be two types of the doubling of the 1941c NFLD 1-cent coin. There is a very slight offset of the number, sometimes just the 94 or the 41 and sometimes the entire date, and ICCS will certify those coins as Double 1941. I have one of these coins, doubling is typical like you see in common Canadian Zoell doubled dates. Then, there is a significant off-set, that ICCS certified in older flips as Re-engraved date. My question - is there a difference between the two, or is this a progressive thing? I cherry picked this coin a while back, and given the degree of offset, I thought I had THE scarce re-engraved date version. Yet, it back from ICCS as Double 1941. Maybe some of the experienced NFLD collectors can chime in here... Thanks Rob. I did a search in the varieties forum, but missed that thread. So, my question - is my coin the "re-engraved date" variety?

SPP...For the sake of sounding stupid, what exactly is a "re-engraved date" variety...?

I think they are one and the same and ICCS changed the terminology over the years. Obviously from the other thread, there is a difference of opinion, but I think they they are Machine Doubling, not re-engraved. Same with the 1940's.

I tend to agree with you... I always suspected it was a progressive thing - just how far have you seen the offset?

About as far as my two in the linked thread. Tim has a bunch of these. He may have seen further.
