squealpigs New Member United States 4 Posts	Posted 03/25/2007 2:58 pm 1983 D steel penny. It is in good shape, a bit dirty but all reading is ok. I cannot find anything on the net about its value, if any. It definitely is not a copper penny, looks like steel. Thanks for any info. Report this Post to the Staff

Susanlynn9 Forum Mom United States 5877 Posts	Posted 03/25/2007 3:13 pm Welcome to CC! Lincoln cents since 1982 have been made of copper-plated zinc. My initial feeling on this is that the copper plating has come off. This would make the coin damaged. It is also possible that the copper plating was not on the original coin, but we would need to see a picture to determine that. Report this Post to the Staff
