The slab's already cracked, so fate is telling you to finish the job!

1928 is a common date, not much above melt unless it's MS-67, so this is a perfect coin for the $20 St. Gaudens hole in any 7070.

Slabs are an unnatural place for coins to be IMO.
Unless your reselling or there are authenticity questions free them
(or possibly slabs are useful to preserve coins)

With the overwhelming response to crack out the coin in the already cracked slab I will release her and grab a few more photos before she goes into the 7070. Thanks for the push.

Nice. I'm always for liberating coins. :)

I liberated this one for my type collection.

This NGC AU-58 1891-CC half eagle was cracked out for my 20th century type set holder.

The only coins I won't crack out are the ones in my Liberty Seated coinage type set every other one gets released and into a holder. It will be much easier to display when completed because there is no album page or plastic holder having the various major types for each denomination.

Sorry I didn't see this thread in the voting stage, but better late than never!

On the cracking issue, I favor a bipartisan approach:

My 7070 coins are all cracked out. I love to fill those holes, and look at the different series side-by-side.

My Half Cents are all slabbed. I want to do a registry set of grade-matched coins, and I also like the preservation aspect.

As far as muddler's specific coin goes - there is no shortage of MS61 1928 Saints. And nothing feels so much like *money* as a double eagle resting heavy in your palm!
