Poll Question
In my 7070 I have my gold page filled except for the one dollar coins and the Saint Gaudens $20. I have this one in a PCGS OGH as a MS 61. Should I crack it out?

It looks like the slab is broken/ cracked on the left side? I cant tell you if the grade is accurate, but I wouldn't keep a coin in a broken slab, myself, just because I would find it aesthetically displeasing.

Wait. You actually have doubts?
If you don't crack that coin, I swear I'll come straight through the Internet to your house - I don't care if your connection is wireless; I'll beam in - and crack that puppy myself.
And on my way out, I'll bring your Coin Geek card with me.

I voted yes .. because I am doing the same things right now ..
I am leaning toward it being higher than MS 61

There's just something - I don't know, satisfying about holding the actual coin. Feeling the heft, seeing it clear and not through some one else's plastic. If you're looking to collect the coin, crack it!

Quote: If you're looking to collect the coin, crack it! You dont have to have a coin raw to collect it, just collectors are just as much of collectors as raw. But the reasons you listed to crack are also the reasons not to, slabbed you can handle it and view it as much as possible without having to worry about doing damage or something happening

Good one SsuperDdave. It should be freed, too many coins jailed.

I cracked out one of the same date in PCGS MS-62 for my 7070 album so you can guess the way I voted

Freedom! I voted yes and would only keep it in the slab if I were intending to sell it.

I say yes in this case simply because you are in need of the holes being filled. Were that not the case, or you had another (because we all have multiple 20 dollar gold coins laying around) I would say leave her in there.

The only problem I see, for those who hate slabs and the TPG's stranglehold on the market, is that a cracked-out coin becomes another potential new slab, and potential new TPG fee. A coin slabbed for all eternity has no more profit potential for the graders. I don't think a grading company sheds a tear when a coin is cracked out.

Quote: I don't think a grading company sheds a tear when a coin is cracked out. Absolute truth. TPG's are service companies. Any quality loose coin is potential new revenue for them. That said, de-slabbing is always a personal choice. If you are conflicted about its present status, you will always be conflicted. So open your majik portal and let S-D do the deed for you if necessary.

Crack it out and fill the hole. Quote: I swear I'll come straight through the Internet to your house - I don't care if your connection is wireless; I'll beam in - and crack that puppy myself.
And on my way out, I'll bring your Coin Geek card with me. I have seen him do it. Do not take this warning lightly.
