My dealer had a 1981 type II proof today. He said he found it in a proof set and he sent it himself to NGC for slabbing, so he didn't have much money in it. So I snagged it for $20 less than bid. That was the last one I needed to complete my set. (Yep, busted it out of the slab. Plastic is for resellers :)

I'm shopping for the type 2's and can't wait to get where you're at.

Congrats on the set. I have been working on one from coins found in the wild for a couple of years.

A wonderful set. I keep telling myself to get serious about completing mine, I have the 15 easy ones, but have been so busy with new mint releases that I have not devoted any time at all to 1965 through 2004. There are so many great coins in that timeframe. The two complete series, the SBAs and IKEs, all of the 40% coins, the SMS sets of 1965-1967, etc.
Congratulations and let us know what you choose to go after next.

I started this set about a year ago, I think. I think it was Nov. of last year. I have 3 major projects I'm working on now.
- My AU or better set of Washington quarters. I am down to about 10 that I still need, but they are getting hard to find.
- Proof Jeffersons. I only need the ultra-early years, 1938 - 1942. I never find them at shows, though they are out there online. I'm picky on the '38 because I want one with the serif on the S in TRUST and you can't always tell from online photos.
- Classic silver commemms. I figure this is the set that will take decades to finish, so it's in the background as I find stuff.

Congratulations! It's a nice feeling to complete a set. Mine was completed a couple years ago.

Awesome! Nice work on completing that set. Did you break the SBA '81-S Type II out of the slab to put in your Dansco? *edit* Never mind - I re-read your original post and saw the comment that you had indeed freed it from the slab stuck between the groups of photos.

Yep, one of the guys at the coin shop was a little bothered that I was going to crack it out (because they are HARD to identify... in fact, years ago a dealer I know sent in a group that came back as type I. He disagreed, cracked 'em, sent 'em back, and they came back as type II). But I figure I would only care about the plastic if I was planning to resell it.
