...I've mentioned before I'm lousy with the teensy details, yes?

This is, in fact, an S-mintmark. I had to take the picture in really bad lighting conditions (one 100-watt incandescent bulb, at night). But the 1970 is what I want an opinion on . . .


. . . small date? Could I really have gotten that lucky?

can you get a clearer picture? but looks like large date to me

Looks large date to me as well. If you search this site, there are a bunch of "Is this a small date" threads. Some of these have some excellent comparisons and pics from various members illustrating the differences.

I go pretty much strictly by the upper tail of the "9", yours is zeroed in on the mm, making it a lg. Also, the mushy center letters in "LIBERTY".

Dang. I had a whole bunch of 1970s set aside to check and all but one were large dates (I have one that's suspect and at some point I'll probably reuse this thread to post it when I can get a good picture), but this one just came in at work and, well . . . given that it's a red, you can probably understand why I didn't want to trust my own judgment.
