1999 P Nickel Repunched/Doubled Mint Mark

1849c New Member United States 13 Posts	Posted 03/26/2007 11:00 pm I bought a few loose mint set coins some time ago. I was putting them in 2x2's tonight when I noticed that one of the 1999-p nickels appeared to have a repunched or doubled mint mark. I am not able to provide a picture. Is this a known error, and if so, is it common. Thanks. Report this Post to the Staff

coppercoins Pillar of the Community United States 7629 Posts	Posted 03/27/2007 01:08 am Well, it's not repunched. Punching mintmarks into the dies ended in 1989. What you likely have is either Machine Doubling (die bounces on coin doubling the design) or Die Deterioration Doubling (die gets old and the wear looks like doubling). Chances of a repunched mintmark are nil, and chances of a doubled die are very slim. Report this Post to the Staff

I agree with Him ! there is no way for it to be an RPM. Mechanically doubled ,deterioration doubled coins do not carry a premium even in the proof sets. Metalman Report this Post to the Staff
