I am very interested in a Russian Nicholas rouble in a PCGS slab at ebay.

on the obverse it reads:
"PCGS Cleaning- XF details"

on the reverse it reads:
"Genuine Not Gradable"

just curious- why is there a grade of "XF", then on the same breath, it's "Not Gradable"?

thanks

I think it refers to the fact that there is no numeric value grade given. Basically they looked at and decided if not for the cleaning it would probably have been graded somewhere in the XF range but they don't bother looking beyond that to pinpoint it to a specific grade because of the cleaning.

Someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Williamsonj320 is correct. Not Gradable means the coin would not (in this case did not) grade because of problems. The implication is that a coin with problems is Not Gradable.

NGC assigns Details grades in the same manner as PCGS. ANACS does assign numeric grades for problem coins but the principle is the same.

So that means PCGS is certifying ONLY that it's genuine, yes got it.

approximately how much does PCGS slabing cost?, the ebay seller would surely add this to his reserve. thanks!

30 USD. Postage and handling often exceed that amount however.

Its about 17 for their postage, 8 dollars per order plus your postage and the service level. Depending on the coin the service level can be anywhere from 14-30 dollars for the lowest and can get up to 100 dollars or so if you basically want over night grading
