Below are the results (part #2) from my forum post last week on my 2009 Lincoln Proof Cents that had toned on both sides in the last three years while in storage with other proof & mint sets, these were the only coins that had toned...

Since the Lincoln Cents in the P & D Mint Set blister pack had no sign of toning, I decided to remove the coins in the Mint Set and replaced them with the coins in the Proof Set to see if that will stop the Cents from further toning, and placed the Uncirculated Coins in the four plastic holders from the proof set... Should the Uncirculated Cents tone while in the proof holder, this would confirm that the cause would be in the original mint packaging....

I am sure I will receive some negative comments on doing this since all the coins involved are no longer in their original holders, truth is I didn't want to spend any more money on them and kinda like viewing all the proof coins in one holder... I still have the second 2009 Proof Set that I was going to place in the other Mint set, but will most likely offer it for trade of a non toned set from one of the members that had contacted me prior to posting this thread. What is odd is the Mint Set comes with a notification that the Lincoln 95% Copper Cents may tone and no notification is enclosed in the Proof Sets, and the opposite happens.

I speculated in the first thread that one factor in the Cent toning may have been gases given off by the brand-new OGP (like the gases that give off the "new car smell") interacting with something in the local atmosphere.

If this is true, OGP that has aged three years before going to Broken-Coin's locality might no longer cause such toning.
You'll have to watch your new Proof Set for a few years to find out, though....

Having all the Proof coins in one holder is really cool!
And, as I guessed, the Mint Set Cents look great in the Proof Lens.
What will jbuck think? Coins removed from their OGP, then put in different OGP.

DNA, I LIKE that! Not a bad idea. I may actually buy some of those empty ones on ebay now...

Broken, your original post spurred me to look on ebay for some toned ones as those spaces are empty in my Dansco. I found a set that came from the full proof set, so it seems that they are toning in that packaging as well, which is pretty much the same except for the picture on the cardboard. As the others said, it will be interesting to see what happens with the mint set coins.

I have ten "empty" A25 box/COA Sets, two of them now filled with 2011-W ASE's.

And I love all those Satin Finish coins in the Proof lenses.

The 2009 Proofs in one holder gives me a great idea.

I just looked at my 2009 Uncirculated Mint Set. (not Proof) and found this slip in the packaging. All Coins are OK.
"The Uncirculated Mint Set"

I do have all three sets Silver Proof, Mint Set and Uncirculated

you do mean the Uncirculated set by your pictures? Never heard them called"Blister Package"
So far the only ones not to tone are my Uncirculated set. The one the Mint warned us about toning. Strange.
My I add, I live in the Great Lakes State, "Michigan." Just to add to the regional question of "cause and effect."
Thanks.

HAHAHA...great experiment! Keep us updated.

Make sure you store the toning experiment under the exact same conditions as the proof set.
