Hi - I have a previous thread abt selling coins online at Great Collections - I recently sent some of my coins into Great Collections and had never heard about the Doily Holders. I received an e-mail back, telling me that my coins are in these holders! Nice! I sent out 2 St Gaudens coins and 1 McKinley coin - .......wonder how much it pushes up the value?
A nice surprise.....

Doiley holders are pretty sought after and they usually do bring the price up a little even on higher priced coins. Please keep us informed on your experience with Great Collections as a seller. I have bought there but have never sold anything through them

doily holders are collectible though not too rare as lately I have seen so many of them. They do make the value of a coin go up. Want something rare, the old NGC black slabs.

I'll let you know how they do - they are not online as of yet, I was told they would be either Monday or Tues.

@basebal21 - ouch - still hoping they bring a little more money. Now I'll have to read a little more about the labels - I never thought abt this part of the collecting. I was only looking up the values of the coins. I know I have some more with the doily labels.I have one coin graded by NCG (1880 $10) will have to look up the label - probably a common one.

Just getting educated on this - the NCG coin's label is white - with the light brown box - under the serial number it has a bar code. The last few digits of the serial number are 005 (from looking at websites, I am thinking that has something to do with the number of coins graded by the company) - am I on the right track?

I thought mine were doily holders - but they are not - they are green and have the hologram on the back - but not the doily design in the front - great collections just wanted me to check the other coins that I did not yet send I know my sister had some doily ones .... Mine look similar to the stuff on ebay - that is plain green on the front label

They have prongs and a different label but the fact its black does reduce the draw to the first black slabs in terms of being a rarity.

baseball, I think plenty of people will still shell out money for the original black slabs.

Quote: They arent exactly the same but they arent completely different. They have prongs and a different label but the fact its black does reduce the draw to the first black slabs in terms of being a rarity. The original has a plain white label, the retro does not. The label on the original is on the back side of the slab, and the retro it is on the front. The original does not have a barcode, the retro does. The original has the logo "branded" into the black insert, the retro has a hologram. The original is a "no line fattie" type holder, the retro has the typical keyed groove to separate the coin from the label. The original is not an edgeview type holder, the retro is. The originals are a shiny deep black insert, I haven't seen a retro in hand yet but they all appear to be a flat gray color not really a black. I would imagine the retro uses an edge similar to that seen on recent generations of NGC slabs, the original used a flat ribbed edge. In short the only thing that is the same between these two holders is that they both use a clear plastic outer shell. They ARE completely different. It's like the differences between a kit car and an original classic. The fact that kit cars exist doesn't have that much effect on the prices of the classics. If the mint came out with a bunch of 1913 V nickels with the head facing the other way would that have a detrimental effect on the prices of the original five? I don't think so.
